Iran hands another massive contract to Revolutionary Guards

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, which boasts 125,000 active troops, its own ground force, navy and air force, and control of the country’s strategic weapons cache, has lately been the proud recipient of massive infrastructure development contracts. It recently won the right to operate Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International airport, and now it has been awarded a US$2.5-billion tender to build a railway route linking the port of Chabahar to the country’s rail network. According to the BBC, the Guards are believed to control around a third of Iran’s economy. Also listed amongst their assets is half of Iran’s national telecommunications company, which is partly owned through an affiliate fund. Read more: BBC news
