World’s cheapest car meets a challenger

It was due to happen eventually, and now it has: Tato’s Nano is about to get some stiff competition in India. The Nano, which at a bottom-end of US$2000 per unit is currently the world’s cheapest car, has redefined the Indian market – one of the motoring industry’s largest growth countries. The challenger to the Nano will be French manufacturer Renault and its partner Nissan, who aim to produce a car cheaper than any other on the subcontinent. The design and production of the car will be handled by Indian firm Bajaj, with Renault and Nissan taking care of the marketing. The release date is 2012. Read more: BBC News
