Eskom chairman Bobby Godsell resigned from his position on Monday, after a meeting with President Jacob Zuma on Sunday. Coincidence?

Both Eskom and the Department of Public Enterprise have now confirmed that Bobby Godsell, the man who was to save us from bad coal management and resultant power outages, has tendered his resignation.

The Presidency has not yet confirmed the resignation; as of early Monday afternoon it still did not (officially) know about this sudden and surprising resolution to the Eskom saga.

This would seem to leave Jacob Maroga, Eskom's CEO, the winner in what sure looks like it was a dirty fight. Godsell announced Maroga's resignation, then had to rush off to a meeting before he could speak to the media, then met with the President, then walked away. That implies some frantic maneuvering on all sides, although none of the players or hangers-on have yet spoken to the media at any length.

Don't feel too sorry for Godsell. His mining career has left him more than a little well-off, so he won't be starving. Neither will he be the one to save us from the darkness.
