DRC forces swoop on police killers

Security forces in Democratic Republic of Congo have arrested about 100 armed men blamed for killing nearly 50 policemen in the northwest of the country. The police were sent to stop clashes over fishing rights between villagers living near the neighbouring Republic of Congo. The fighting caused thousands of people to flee across the border. Reports say the arrested men were heavily armed with rifles, AK-47s and machine guns. Most of the UN’s 18,000 peacekeepers (its biggest peacekeeping mission anywhere) are based in the lawless east of the country, where fighting related to Rwanda’s 1994 genocide has gone on for many years.
