A Swedish diplomat has been kicked out of Morocco for passing official documents to the separatist Polisario Front, which is a de facto power in Western Sahara. Despite many years of UN-backed talks between Morocco and the Algerian-backed separatists, the parties cannot agree on one of two options: semi-autonomy or full independence. It’s been a really long and drawn out process, with a ceasefire in place since 1991. But negotiations have stalled many times in ensuing years, creating a perpetual stalemate.
