Even Nintendo has been slowed by recession

The global downturn is truly, well, global. Even Nintendo, the makers of Wii, possibly the world's favourite game platform that humbled Sony's Playstation and Microsoft's X-Box, is finally forced to halt its seemingly unstoppable march. The Japanese gaming company reported on Thursday that its profits plunged 52%, from $1.6 billion to $772 million between April to September, less than its own forecast of roughly $1 billion. Mind you, it is still making profits, but the drop in Wii sales was quite dramatic, almost halved in fact, from 10 million to 5.75 million. And as the total sales of video games also fell 16% this year, Nintendo and its Wii might be in for a rough ride in the next year. Read more: Christian Science Monitor, BusinessWeek
