Taliban militants kill UN staffers, storm guest house

Taliban gunmen wearing suicide vests and police uniforms stormed a building used by UN staffers in the centre of Kabul. They killed 12, including six UN staff, in the biggest attack yet to undermine the presidential run-off poll on 7 November.  The Taliban claimed responsibility for this attack as part of a larger range of assaults including rockets fired at the presidential palace and at the Sarinah Hotel. Kai Eide, the UN head in Kabul, said the attack “will not deter the UN from continuing its work” in the country. Read more: AP
