Returning to old ways Zanu-PF prevents visit by UN torture expert

Zimbabwe's Zanu-PF has gone back to its old ways since its rival the Movement for Democratic Change “disengaged” from the country’s unity government over the arrest of one its members on terrorism charges. Now Robert Mugabe’s party sees itself governing alone once more, having withdrawn an invitation to the UN's investigator on torture, Manfred Nowak, hours before he was due to visit. The MDC says its members have been beaten up since police raided its offices on the pretext they were looking for weapons. Nowak was told of the cancellation in South Africa on his way to Zimbabwe. He was due to inspect prisons and police stations, and compile a report for the Security Council.Read more: BBC News
