As part of a widespread crackdown on graft, the former head of Nigeria's ports authority has been sentenced to two years in jail for abuse of office. Bode George was sentenced along with five other board members on charges including offering contracts above their approved limits. He was an ally of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and became one of Nigeria's most powerful men. The sentencing bodes ill for 15 of the country’s most high-profile bankers, who are awaiting trial on charges of conspiracy and money laundering.
