Ford gives Asian carmakers run for pole position

Asian carmakers are still in pole position, with eight of 10 top brands coming from Japanese and Korean companies. But several models from Ford are now consistently scoring above the bosses of all bosses Honda and Toyota. Its mid-size Ford Fusion and the Mercury Milan model have editors at industry watcher Consumer Reports effusing that Ford is now making vehicles of world-class reliability - in a league with Scion, Honda, Toyota, Infiniti and Acura, classed as the top five brands according to surveys among its readers. Ford’s four-cylinder versions of the Fusion and Milan finished second in the family car category, beaten only by the Toyota Prius gas-electric hybrid. The models outscored the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, the two top-selling cars in the US. This is great news for an American icon, struggling to get back on track after the 2008 stock market crash. And for consumers watching their purses, Consumer Reports found inexpensive small cars and mid-size family sedans the most reliable of all.Read more: AP
