MDC claims top official beaten by Zanu-PF thugs

Zimbabwe’s Movement for Democratic Change says one of its top officials has been beaten up by militants from President Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF party. This comes a few days after MDC offices were raided by police. Zanu-PF says the claim is just sour grapes resulting from the MDC's decision to “disengage” from the unity government over the arrest on terrorism charges of party member Roy Bennett. The MDC says violence against its supporters has again begun in the country’s urban and rural areas. Zimbabwean police beat MDC Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai to a pulp in early 2007, after arresting him for attending a banned prayer rally.Read more: BBC, Reuters
