Zim cops raid MDC offices for weapons

In another travesty of Zimbabwe’s pretence at unity government, armed police raided a house belonging to Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change party, saying they were searching for weapons. This comes after MDC member Roy Bennett, who was to be a deputy agricultural minister, was released from prison last week pending his terrorism trial which begins later this month. In 2006 Bennett was accused of being part of a plot to kill Mugabe and fled to South Africa. Since his return to Zimbabwe he has been charged with crimes that could get him the death penalty. The MDC says the latest raid is because the party disengaged from the unity government over Bennett, and over its efforts to protect public funds.Read more: M&G, BBC, Afrik.com
