Ethiopia asks for aid as famine stalks

Ethiopia has appealed for $121 million in emergency aid for more than 6 million people after drought killed off farming in much of the Horn of Africa. More than 80% of Ethiopians live off the land. The problem of drought is perennial, with Bob Geldof’s Band Aid memorably raising funds for one million starving people in Ethiopia in 1984. But lack of rain is a constant fear in countries, including Kenya and Somalia, where 30% of the population of 10 million are also in need of food aid.Read more: BBC
