Senegal misses meeting on border military build-up

Senegalese officials failed to attend a border meeting aimed at easing tensions with its neighbour Guinea-Bissau after a military build-up. This is not a good omenin a region that has seen brutal civil wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone, and a recent coup and killings in nearby Guinea. News reports say civilians in Guinea-Bissau have abandoned their homes in a border town for fear of tensions over ownership of potential oil reserves, and accusations that Guinea-Bissau has harboured southern Senegalese separatist rebels. Apparently the two sides have rescheduled the meeting for Friday.
