Somalia says Eritrea deserves punishment over rebels

In an ominous statement, Somalia’s foreign minister said Eritrea should be punished for threatening the Horn of Africa region by supporting the radical Islamist group, al Shabaab, which Washington says is linked to al-Qaeda. The US, Britain, the UN and the African Union also accuse Eritrea of fanning chaos in Somalia by supporting al Shabaab, but the killing of a senior al Shabaab associate in a recent US helicopter attack fomented a twin suicide bombing on AU headquarters in the Somali capital, Mogadishu. Britain has told the UN Security Council it is ready to punish Eritrea for its role in Somalia. Whatever the multiple threats mean, they are likely to further inflame the already anarchic region.
