Mugabe to chair cabinet meeting without unity government partner

Robert Mugabe will chair a cabinet meeting on Tuesday without the opposition Movement for Democratic Change. The MDC has boycotted the unity government over the jailing last week of its member, Roy Bennett, who was to become a deputy agriculture minister. Bennett is out of jail for now on charges of possessing weapons for sabotage, banditry and terrorism. MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai said the charges were fabricated and his party would no longer attend cabinet meetings. He said Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party had become dishonest and unreliable. Mugabe spokesman George Charamba said the agenda for the meeting has been circulated and decisions will be taken that are binding. Another instance of Mugabe’s total lack of sincerity.
