Iran’s Revolutionary Guard commanders killed by suicide bombers

Two bombs in Iran's restive south-eastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan killed five senior Revolutionary Guard officers, including General Nour Ali Shoushtari,  deputy head of land forces.  Twenty-one others were killed and 60 more wounded.  Sistan-Baluchistan, a predominantly Sunni province, has been the site of other terrorist blasts targeting Shiites and the Iranian government in recent years. The This latest attack comes as the Iranian government is trying to end protests against the contested presidential election. While no group has claimed responsibility, the militant Sunni, Jundallah ("Soldiers of God"), has been responsible for a spluttering, low-level insurgency in the province for years. The group alleges persecution of Sunnis and has targeted Iranian soldiers and RG officers in other attacks. Iranian officials have often raised concerns that the US may be inciting Iran's ethnic and religious minorities against the Shiite-led, ethnic Iranian government. But in Washington  the US condemned the "act of terrorism", and dismissed reports of US involvement as "completely false".
