Auschwitz memorial launches Facebook page

The museum at Auschwitz now has a Facebook page, hoping it will help reach young people around the globe and engage them in discussions about the Holocaust. The site, which opened earlier this week, now has 1,800 "fans", with the number growing by the hour. The museum already had a Polish-language YouTube page in 2008 and has added one in English as well. Between 1940-45, at least a million people died at the camp. The Auschwitz memorial is not the first Holocaust-related organisation on Facebook. The Simon Wiesenthal Centre has more than 2,000 "fans" on its site and also uses Twitter. And there is an unofficial Facebook page dedicated to Israel's Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial, which will launch an official page soon.
