The smartest guy in the room goes to Washington

Actually, he’ll take a stand in front of the US Supreme Court in February 2010. Former CEO of former resource-trading giant Enron, and according to many the true architect of the disaster, Jeff Skilling, was sentenced to 24 years in prison for his role in the Enron collapse that destroyed billions in value and many, many lives. Yet, it appears that his defence might have a case here. The law that was used to frame Skilling’s guilt, the so-called “honest services law” is pretty vague and there is substantial evidence that he was presumed guilty in the press and his community even before his trial started. That made it impossible for him to receive a fair trial. So when he enters the Supreme Court’s hallowed passages, he’ll have a good chance of walking out a free man. Which in itself would also be terribly unfair.
