Cisco spends another quick $3 billion

As we predicted a couple of weeks ago, Cisco had $35 billion to spend and it has a burning yearning to spend it. Until yesterday, Starent was a relatively small (in US terms, of course) company, quietly developing software that makes it easier to send large amounts of data to phones and other communication devices. Although growing 74% from last year, its revenue was still a modest $254.1 million this year. Today, they were gobbled up by free-spending Cisco, for no less than $2.9 billion. Cisco’s move indicates that the San Diego, California, company is expanding into mobile space, betting that more and more customers will have enterprise-level data needs while on the move.
