France and the US are calling for an international probe into last month's massacre of some 200 opposition demonstrators in Guinea’s capital Conakry. The African Union earlier imposed sanctions on Guinean junta leader, Captain Moussa Dadis Camara. Camara took over the west African country in a coup in December and reneged on an earlier pledge not to run in elections next year, prompting 50,000 protesters to hit the streets. Rights groups say widespread rape and beatings accompanied the shootings. Camara seized power after the death of dictator, Lansana Conte, who ruled since 1984. Camara seems to be acting in much the same way.
