Government-sponsored retro-neo-colonialism: white farmers to go north

The government is looking at opportunities to establish white South African farmers elsewhere on the continent, at least in part because land redistribution here will mean there isn't enough farmland to go around. Talks are apparently underway with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Angola, Zambia and Uganda. This comes straight from Tina Joemat-Pettersson, minister of agriculture, by way of a Business Day report today on a conference that took place on Friday. We’ve seen previous (mostly unsuccessful) exoduses of white farmers to Mozambique, Argentina and even Nigeria, but those have always been farmers fleeing the change of government, not government-sponsored emigration. Will the farmers bite? If there is sufficient promise of money to be made we think they might. There is also the question though of whether new farmers in SA taking over previously successful farms will rise to the challenge this time around.
