Guinean junta shows internal tensions over killings

Tensions have arisen within the junta of Guinean coup leader Captain Moussa Dadis Camara after a senior leader summoned police to arrest Camara's aide-de-camp for his part in the killing of some 200 anti-government protesters. The incident happened hours after France suggested Camara could be implicated in the deaths. The arrest was aborted when a dispute flared with other junta members. France’s foreign minister Bernard Kouchner has called for international intervention in the country, the world's biggest bauxite supplier. The US now says Guinea faces unspecified sanctions. The demonstrators were killed after Camara, who came to power in a coup, said he wanted to run in presidential elections in January. Guinea's main opposition coalition is demanding that he step down before it will engage with the junta.
