Tory leader David Cameron promises to put Britain back on her feet

Following his deputy’s strong medicine on budgets and benefits, Conservative Party leader David Cameron told voters he had the stuff to be the UK’s next prime minister and "put Britain back on her feet". In his party conference address, Cameron said there would be tough times ahead, but he would tell the unvarnished truth. As befitting a Tory, he argued that economic recovery came from the people, not big government, and he promised to cut the bureaucracy (and lower its benefits) to make this possible. The conference was a chance for the Conservatives to set out their vision for the future. But, it may actually have been too grim for voters – the Conservative’s lead dropped four points during the meeting. Accusing Labour of arrogance in saying it could fight poverty and deprivation, Cameron asked: “Who made the poorest poorer? Who left youth unemployment higher? Who made inequality greater? No, not the wicked Tories. You, Labour. You're the ones that did this to our society. So don't you dare lecture us about poverty.” Well, what did you expect him to say?
