Zimbabwe’s Tsvangirai in line for Nobel Peace Prize

Along with the strange choices of US and French presidents Barack Obama and Nicolas Sarkozy, Zimbabwe's Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai is in the running to win the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009. Other candidates include Colombian Piedad Cordoba and Afghan rights activist Sima Samar. Norway's Nobel Committee wants a peace maker or rights activist engaged in a current conflict. A Maltese-based bookmaker lists Tsvangirai at 6-to-1. Odd that the good and the great are bet upon like racehorses, even before anyone knows whether it is a two-horse race. The winner will be announced on 9 October.
