The end of the world is not that nigh after all
Nasa has changed its mind. Whew! Aren’t you happy? The agency now believes the chances of a really big rock slamming into the Earth in 2036 are much lower than odds they originally quoted. Scientists initially believed there was a 1-in-45,000 chance the asteroid Apophis could hit the planet on 13 April 2036. But yesterday, after some new calculations were made, Nasa announced the betting line was a 1-in-250,000 chance. You may not remember it, but we first thought Apophis was going to hit us in 2029. Now we think it will sail right by us in 2029. Lucky us, dodged the bullet already.
