Terror suspect sues US govt over Egyptian rendition

Just as US civil courts have had to deal with suspected al-Qaeda militants, a so-called terrorist suspect in an Italian trial over secret CIA rendition flights wants $10 million in US government compensation, saying he was tortured during interrogation in Egypt. The wife of the suspect has separately demanded another 5 million euros in damages for the snatching of the Muslim cleric off Milan's streets in 2003. Twenty-six Americans, mostly CIA agents, face up to 13 years in jail for kidnapping, but the US has ruled out extraditing them, so any conviction would be symbolic. The trial challenges the extra-judicial transfers of terror suspects used by the administration of former President George W. Bush. There is hope the cleric and his wife will bring the veil down on these illegal acts.
