Baucus’ $829 billion health care bill would cover 94%

Baucus’ $829 billion health care bill would cover 94%

The Senate finance committee’s health care bill would reach 94% of all eligible Americans, and cost $829 billion, the Congressional budget office has announced. It added the bill would actually reduce federal deficits by $81 billion over a decade and probably lead to "continued reductions in federal" red ink in years to come. This report almost certainly will help power this version of the bill to a positive vote by the committee. It is largely in line with Obama’s call for an overhaul of the nation’s health care system. Senator Max Baucus (Democrat - Montana), committee chair and architect of the measure, said, "This legislation, I believe, is a smart investment on our federal balance sheet. It's an even smarter investment for American families, businesses and our economy." Republican Senator Grassley – not surprisingly – said the bill masks billions of dollars in new taxes.
