Somali rebel leader calls for ceasefire

The leader of a Somali Islamic rebel group wants a ceasefire with rival al Shabab insurgents to end days of fighting around the southern port of Kismayu. The US says al Shabab are al Qaeda proxies in the Horn of Africa. The Hizbul [???] Islamic leader says the conflict between the rebels is only helping Somalia's moderate Islamist government, backed by the UN and African Union peacekeepers. The West will be concerned about this development as the group is seen to be less radical that al Shabab and this bodes ill for containing the deadly violence that has rocked the capital, Mogadishu in the past month.
