Conde Nast to kill four more big-name magazines

Conde Nast to kill four more big-name magazines

It’s carnage at the world’s premier magazine publisher. After closing Portfolio and Domino earlier this year, and deeply cutting costs on all remaining titles the consultants McKinsey-driven knife is slicing even deeper. The latest victims: Gourmet, Cookie, Modern Bride and Elegant Bride. The saddest is the demise of Gourmet, the venerable taste-setting magazine that started life way back in 1941, survived the Second World War, many recessions and periods of bad taste. It couldn’t, however, survive the poisonous cocktail of recession and the Internet. (And let’s not forget McKinsey, too.) Although Conde Nast executives see some kind of limited future for the titles online, none of 180 staff will remain with the company.
