Gama blames Wells for Transnet tender irregularities

Suspended Transnet Freight Rail chief executive Siyabonga Gama has hit back at Transnet’s acting chief executive Chris Wells, saying it was Wells who’d taken decisions on the contracts Gama was suspended for approving, Business Report says. Gama's attorney, Paul Kennedy, on Friday told the South Gauteng High Court that Wells was the one who made decisions regarding the awarding of a tender for 50 "like new" locomotives, and suggested Wells had instituted the disciplinary inquiry into his conduct to hide his own wrongdoing. Paul Pretorius, representing Transnet, said in an answering affidavit the counter-allegations might require investigation and, if appropriate, disciplinary action. If this was not done, he said, it would render the disciplinary hearing against Gama unfair.
