83 female activists arrested in Zimbabwe
Lawyers have said that 83 female activists were arrested in Harare on Monday, after they marched on the parliament building without authorisation. The women belong to the Women of Zimbabwe Arise group, and were arrested after marching to highlight issues around community safety and police behaviour. A statement released by Woza says that the police have not yet decided what to charge the women with, as most of them handed themselves over. The move has drawn the condemnation of Amnesty International, who called on the Zimbabwean police to release the women.
