DA calls Cosatu education policies "defeatist"

The DA's basic education spokesperson Wilmot James said that proposals put forward by Cosatu to improve basic education would result in lowering everyone into poverty. James called Cosatu's policies "defeatist" and "anti-poor". Cosatu said that the country needed to "eliminate the three-tiered structure of the education system which features private institutions, model-C schools and ordinary public schools and to redistribute resources toward ordinary public schools in working class and poor communities". However, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga's spokesperson reassured the independent schools that their right to exist was not under threat. Read more: Sapa, via IOL
