Al Gore environmental school built on toxic soil

A new high school of environment science due to open on 13 September in Los Angeles, named after former US vice-president Al Gore and activist Rachel Carson, has been built on a contaminated site. The site where the Carson-Gore Academy of Environmental Sciences is located is contaminated by "more than a dozen underground storage tanks serving light industrial businesses" as well as "the underground tanks of an adjacent gas station". At least it was, until the city spent $4 million replacing the toxic soil with healthy soil from somewhere else. So, to be clear, the Carson-Gore school dedicated to environmental sciences is built atop underground storage tanks, next to a gas station and across the road from an oil well.
