The drunken elk did it, not the husband. Oops!

A Swedish man arrested as key suspect in the murder of his wife has now been cleared. Police have determined that an elk was the killer instead. Ingemar Westlund found the body of his wife near the village of Loftahammer in September 2008. Westlund was arrested and held in custody for 10 days before the cops fingered the elk. Westlund has been cleared now that forensic analysis found elk hair and saliva on his wife's clothes. Yuck. His wife had last been seen walking the family dog in the forest. When she didn’t come back, her husband went to look for her. The murder investigation was dropped five months ago, but details have only now come to light and police plan a news conference to explain it all.  Naturalists say the European elk is usually shy and will normally run away from humans, but sometimes the animals become aggressive after eating fermented fallen apples in gardens.
