North Korean webmasters carried out cyber-attacks on US, South Korea

According to news reports, the North Korean government was the svengali behind some high-profile cyber-attacks last July that caused Web outages in South Korea and the United States. The head of South Korea’s main spy agency said it had finally traced the IP address that triggered the Web attacks back to North Korea's Ministry of Post and Telecommunications. Back in July, South Korean media reported that North Korea had a special Internet warfare unit designed to hack into US and South Korean military networks to gather confidential information and disrupt service. The July attacks guided a wave of computers to attempt to connect with a number of government web sites, simultaneously, to overwhelm their respective servers. Affected sites included the White House and South Korea’s presidential Blue House. Read more: AP
