Mbeki’s Darfur report names executioners as judges

Thabo Mbeki really doesn’t want the International Criminal Court to get Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity over Darfur. Instead he reckons hybrid courts comprising Sudanese and foreign judges should investigate atrocities in the region. A long-awaited report led by Mbeki and commissioned by the African Union, says Khartoum, widely held responsible for what the US has called genocide, should help choose the judges. The UN says about 300,000 people have died during Darfur's six-year conflict. Khartoum says that’s only about 10,000 dead. Mbeki appears to agree with Khartoum. Read more: BBC, Sapa
