Somali police fear new suicide attacks on AU
Not long after radical Islamists killed 17 African Union peacekeepers in twin suicide bombings at their headquarters in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, Somali police say they are preparing for a new wave of suicide attacks on the AU mission. The twin bombings happened shortly after a US helicopter strike killed a senior foreign militant based in Somalia, who the Americans say was involved with al-Qaeda. The militants used stolen UN vehicles to get into the AU compound where a meeting between US, EU and Nato officials was taking place. The police believe the rebels will use vehicles camouflaged as ambulances and water tanks to carry out new attacks.
