Blogs and tweets could be used to predict the future

Google's chief economist has published a study showing that there is a correlation between the volume of social media searches for certain products, like cars, and monthly sales of said products. Social media will probably complement more traditional data-mining techniques for futures-projections, rather than replacing them altogether. Seems like the bigwigs are finally agreeing that nothing beats social media for measuring the pulse of the world. Read more: New Scientist
