One million H1N1 vaccine shots for 50 million people

Reports of reports tell us that health minister Aaron Motsoaledi wants to buy a million doses of H1N1 vaccine, although no order has yet been placed. The order would be divvied up among three suppliers apparently. Among the questions this raises: Do we need vaccines for a disease with such a low fatality rate? Will H1N1 still be a problem by the time these vaccine doses arrive in SA, or will they be useless in the face of the next pandemic? And who will we vaccinate with them? School children? Women who plan to fall pregnant? Hypochondriacs?
